Aquilegia (Columbine)

Also known as Columbine, Aquilegia is a genus of flowers native to the meadows, woodlands and higher altitudes of the Northern Hemisphere. Aquilegia is derived from the Latin for eagle; columbine is derived from the Latin for pigeon or dove.

The flowers of some species of columbine were consumed as a condiment with other greens. They taste slightly sweet and are safe to eat in small quantities. However, the roots and seeds of the plant are highly toxic.
