Cordyline is genus of flowering plants native to the Western Pacific Ocean region. It derives its name from Greek, meaning “club”, because of the shape of its rhizomes.

There are fifteen species of cordyline. Many are used for ornamental purposes. Some species are used for food, medicine or as ornamental clothing for native people in the South Pacific.
