Impatiens is a genus of nearly a 1,000 species of flowering plants native to the Northern Hemisphere and tropics. Various varieties of impatiens are commonly known as jewelweeds, balsams and touch-me-nots.

Certain species of impatiens have been used in folk medicine, but science has proven that they have no positive benefits. In Asia, dyes are created from certain impatiens and used to color women’s fingernails and hair.
